As online or distance education is becoming more prevalent both as a result of the pandemic and as an alternative avenue for student admissions, librarians need an understanding of educational pedagogy to successfully engage students through our teaching of information literacy courses, user instruction sessions, and research consultations in an online classroom. Topics address during this session include a brief history of distance education, the alignment and application of educational theories with online technologies, and the development of a community of inquiry through teaching and social presence, and instructor immediacy.
